Sooooo July ended with the final Saturn - Uranus opposition. And look at the chaos: heat in Russia, Europe, (wheat prices already on the way up), a flood in Pakistan that has displaced more people than that great tsunami, and the second dip of the double dip recession just getting started. . . Well, well. Get back on your meditation mat, because we are just getting warmed up to August and another round of fireworks!

First, there is the always interesting Jupiter/Saturn opposition on August 16th. Jupiter in Aries, feeling oh so fiery and Saturn in Libra, feeling wonderfully judgmental. This opposition will test our economic recovery and the boundaries of monetary expansion and contraction. The attempted expansion of the world economic situation will feel a retraction as Saturn gets really comfortable in the test of the bailout and the creaking of world markets. How long can Germany keep the Euro afloat? Only the shadow knows. And oh, that’s right, Mercury is in the shadow of its retrograde that will be from August 20 to September 12th. The Mercury shadow, however is from August 1 - September 27. Got all the bases in August covered, including, the Jupiter/Pluto square which will be exact on August 21.The transformation grid of the Zodiac will be completely ramped up.
Astrology is always nothing if not a lesson in cycles and the cycles that moving through August are major. The cardinal transits just keep on churning and churning the cosmic soup here on planet Earth.

Yet there is an opportunity here, a real chance to face change, to be a part of a large transition we are all, as a global village, going through. Don’t take the high road, or the low road, take the road of little steps. Work on human kindness in your neighborhood, on the freeway, take the time to just work on spreading the expression of human self-worth and care. The big picture is too big, it has to be broken down into steps and the true first step starts at the door of our own hearts and our own actions. The old quote, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself,” is still the rock of hope for a better world.

In the face of all this, I am still telling my clients to do what they can day by day in those little things that can add up to quite a lot. . . and to keep strong in their meditation practice. It is by staying calm within that we can begin to move the inner peace out into the world.

June 26, 2010 4:30am Lunar Eclipse
Several people have called me, completely over stressed about the June 26 eclipse. Even the slightest surfing of the internet produces a plethora of articles about this celestial event being the harbinger of disaster. What to do? Here are my simple steps.

1) Stay strong in your meditative practice.

2) No practice? Sit, relax, listen to your breath twenty minutes each day.
3) Visualize the planet Earth as in Apollo photos.

4) See, the whole perspective changes

With this insight know that all is going as it should be. The universe is vast. We will all get through this with a calm reflection. Worry just makes the situation more stressful. Deal with your place and your space. Look at this as a Tai Chi moment. Just go with the flow. Have compassion. Show love. Focus on what you can do where you are, with the elements of your life in your environment here on the Mother Earth plane. Sounds simple, but it works. If we each do our part, the whole will improve. Use this eclipse to examine the inner you. Turn the TV off and turn inward. There is a core of being that we can always celebrate.
We are star dust. Don’t forget that, ever. Don’t let the internet scare you.

With so many people talking about the complex and definitely powerful celestial events coming up–Uranus has just entered Aries at this writing–the question that I get from clients and friends is: With all these different energies sloshing about, what can I do?

I think the answer is: meditate and keep your personal energy field as clear as possible. As astrologers and other advocates of a new consciousness, it important that we walk the walk like we talk it. The stresses that are still going to unfold in this summer and early fall have already made it difficult to watch the news. The oil spill, the environment, the economy, continuing political posturing, the wars, the ethnic strife, all make it hard to even look at the news media for fear of the next crisis or the continuing unraveling of the list we already are facing.

The answer on a personal level for me is meditation. Meditation brings a deep awareness of the greater space within and without. It does not take a genius to know that life involves suffering. As Joseph Campbell noted, “Life feeds on life.” Look at the food chain. Animals feed on each other. We are part of the cycle. Granted in our best moments we can choose love and compassion, but it has to be coming to us from an inner point of the soul and spirit, that space where love can start.

Meditation, an orthodox friend told me, is just secular prayer. Well, if praying helps, then pray. However for those who have not found a particular religion to work for them, meditation is what works for me and many others. It is not a thing about religion. Meditation is really at the core of a larger mystical format which brings one to a larger spiritual reality that transcends all religions and is yet a part of all of them.

Mediators have been tested and certified by western science to have less stress, to be able to cope with difficult situations with greater insight and to be balanced in overview of the higher dimensions of life.

So–meditate. No matter what the news is, no matter what personal problems may arise during this period so glibly defined as the Cardinal Climax. Meditation can help focus the mind and spirit on a higher matrix to which all within the bio-field of planet earth.

Find the time, make the time, to sit down and be aware of your breath coming and out of your body. Keep your focus on the miracle of the now in you. Start with where you are and work out from the breath. The universe itself is like the out breath of, say, the big bang and the black holes are the in breath bringing it all back to the core. Granted this probably too simple an analogy, but it makes the point.

What we have learned from the Hubble pictures is how vast and beautiful the universe is. While we are travelers on this merry-go-round, meditation is way find a center. To spend a few moments in the peace of the self and the infinite that is within and without will provide that inner strength we need to face whatever life tosses at us individually and collectively.

And finally, let me conclude by saying what a unique life we are living to be able to see this particular juncture in human history. The World Village of Bucky Fuller, this Spaceship Earth, is a reality. The internet has brought us all together. We are able to know moment by moment what is going on anywhere on the planet. Now we must learn to do, as Auden said in 1939, we must learn to love one another or die. It is our challenge. And this summer will be one where human resources will be tested.

Meditate. It is that still point in a spinning world that the ancient masters were talking about.

The Full Moon on May 27 is especially interesting. All clients and astrologers should study this moon, for to me it is a trigger moon. Mercury has gone direct on May 11, Jupiter opposes Saturn on May 22 and Saturn goes direct on the 30th right after this moon and then we go into the celestial fireworks of the summer when Jupiter conjuncts Uranus and then we enter into an extremely dynamic eclipse and Cardinal Cross configuration that astrologers have been writing about for months. The count down technically started with the opposition of Uranus and Saturn April 26th.

What makes the May 27th full moon a trigger moon? It is a splay chart with five, that is right, count them, five oppositions: Sun (Gemini) -Moon (Sagittarius), Mars (Leo)-Neptune (Aquarius); Saturn (Virgo) Uranus Jupiter (Pisces) Mercury ( Taurus) - Athena (Scorpio); Venus (Cancer) Pluto (Capricorn).

Oppositions stretch boundaries. Typically astrologers agree the the slower moving planet in an opposition has more power and its affect is more dominate. Since all the personal planets are involved with these power planets the fall out is going to affect everyone. Mercury is the only personal planet that has any power, it opposes Athena in Scorpio, so the tension of discipline and wise power must find articulation.

When we stop the astrological jargon what we have here is that some kind of national or international event is being foreshadowed here. I feel that the present stock bubble may well burst and a new wave of defaults and credit card debt has to be dealt with.

We can know for sure that larger battles on the political arena are unavoidable. The Tea Party movement, the aggressive and misguided Fox News, the very polarization in the Senate and House, a growing anger over Wall Street/Main Street, the confusion over the Health Care Bill, the growing worry over Iran, the possible growing instability in Iraq, and possible terrorist attacks here within the boundaries of the US.

Two large and volatile problems might easily create a large chaos. First the Arizona immigration law will cause the Mexican and other Hispanic populations to take to the streets in numbers that may well make the march on Washington look small. Second a terrorist attack of a sizable proportion could create terrible consequences for the Muslims living in the US. Should this group of moderates get radicalized, the situation would be hard indeed.

What of natural disasters. Here in California the chances of a major quake seems to be growing as tremors have been felt in Baja, San Diego, Eureka, and the Indio desert. With the quakes in Chili, Haiti and China and Indonesia actually showing how active the Pacific Rim is –and let’s not forget volcanoes (!) Finally bizarre weather, tornadoes and hurricanes and rain.

I do not want to sound like an alarmist, but golly-gee Frodo, something is afoot!

Hopefully this will be a time of deep transition where things get done in terms of the necessary social and judicial changes we need as well and the economic changes necessary to lower unemployment–perhaps like Australia, UK and several European countries there will be a permanent unemployment benefit.

Living in LA and seeing the chaos that is the California political climate, where the state and large cities are bankrupt, there has to be developed a vision that can revamp what was once a great example of good government.

So, ladies and gentlemen, strap on your seat belt for the astrological energy that is the summer of 2010. These are the times that try the soul of humanity. Meditate on it and go out and spread a little love in your heart.

Get on your computer and look at the New Moon in Aquarius at 26degrees. Note that six planets will be within 30 degrees of each other Sun Moon Neptune Venus Mars Jupiter and Uranus, plus Chiron. Mercury is in Aquarius at 4 degrees.

The planets that are out of this huge planetary cluster (two stelliums packed together ) are Pluto Saturn and Mars.

The result is a double yod configuration that is bound to bring a lot of confusion and angst to the macrocosm and thus to us in the microcosm.

There are two yods Mars Pluto Venus and Saturn Mars Venus. Mercury opposes Mars adding yet another element to the mix (heated words).

Without going through a planet by planet interpretation, let me say Mars as the participant in both yods means that we are going to have more extreme terrorist activities. Expect yet another attack, hopefully it will be foiled, as was the diaper bomber.

Some of my friends are talking another big earthquake–a possibility.

I think that Jupiter’s involvement in this has to point to yet another heavy hit in financial markets. Mercury’s fingerprint will be in all the miss-communication that will erupt. A cyber attack is another possibility
Venus points to more diplomatic activities in finance and the war on terror. One thought that has crossed my mind is that Iran’s political situation and nuclear program may also heat up (Pluto in a yob and in square to Saturn)

Astrology is amazing in how accurate planetary configurations can, through synchronicity point to the timing of events. The 13th is such a configuration. Give the energy expended here from immediate to a three week envelope for all this to occur. . . and it may take much longer to deal with the events that occur.

2010 is going to be an exciting year!

This January 29 is a super moon. The moon will be the closest it will be all of this year.

Astrologers consider this moon to have extraordinary energy and attention should be directed to where it is in your chart (Leo). Look for emotional issues and remember pride sometimes is a dangerous emotion. Those of us near the ocean (I am a scuba diver) must watch out for high tides.

Most importantly, this super moon comes just before the next Saturn square Pluto on the 31st. It will be interesting to see how this powerhouse square affects the continued restructuring and transformation of both personal, mundane, philosophical and theological structure and personal underpinnings. Be flexible! Look for the houses in your chart where these planets are placed and be open for the need to adjust to the continued evolution of change as the energies of this two powerful planets continue create an evolutionary process just like two tectonic plates create earthquates and tear down (eventually) mountains and build others. Change comes, whether we like it or not.

Also, in my next blog I will discuss the coming super aspects of two yods the day before Saint Valentine’s day. As they say, when it rains, it pours. In this astrological instance, this is true.

Lunar Eclipse Starts the New Year

2010 – What a beginning! It is not very often that the new year will start off with a Lunar Eclipse on New Years Day!!!!!!!! While on the West Coast this celestial event will be at 11:13 pm, the rest of the country–which most importantly means Washington DC will experience this eclipse at in the wee hours of January 1, 2010.

What a way to start the new year off! What might this mean? Well, the moon will be at 10 degrees of Cancer and since the United States is a Cancer Nation (sounds ominous, but it is a great nurturing sign, actually) this means that the US is in for a very emotional roller coaster ride. Cancer is the mother of the zodiac and with the eclipse in Cancer it probably means that this health care issue is not going to go away quietly, something has to be done. There has to be a compromise. A bill must be gotten out of the senate. There are just too many people who are not covered with health benefits in this country, supposedly a country so devoted the “pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” It seems to me that life and happiness in this day and age means health care for all, not just a few. However, it is not my purpose to drone on and on about health care or the political winds that will blow during this politically charged year when Obama will be facing the congressional elections, a true measure of the country’s response to his administration. The solar eclipse in July will probably be the turning point and it is in the later (19) degrees of Cancer and will bring about some sort of national self introspection: what is the US all about, any way and how much longer can this split of red and blue states go on. There may well be an event that will bring us together like 9/11, but hopefully not that traumatic.
What about Me? What about the Eclipses of 2010 and Me? I am glad that you asked that question. The new year will bring about a lot of personal introspection and transformation. With the Sun at 10 degrees being sandwiched between Mercury (19) and and Venus (7) and Pluto (3) lurking about there is the indication is that the ego (Sun) is going to be the focus of a lot of attention. If we can imagine that on the macrocosm the eclipse hits at the ego or unconscious of a nation, we can say that on the microcosm (those parts that in sum make up a huge part of the macrocosm) we the individuals will be facing a large shift in the making of each individual’s “personal myth.”

Jung taught that each of us is on a quest to realize our self that is a personality identity that transcends the ego and makes for a larger and more encompassing aspect of the individual. The self is a complex mix of the human being. Let’s say that means the “being” part of being human. This sense of self, this identification of a connection to a larger whole of which the individual is integrated into a greater universal is done through the creation of personal myth.

What is personal myth? A personal myth is that large conceptual story of experiences and dreams that create a personal hierarchy of values and archetypes. There are many archetypes and sub grouping. For example the mother–there is the good mother, the bad mother, the child destroying child mother. There is the wise mentor mother who gives advice and takes on younger people as surrogate children. There is the mother who wants to mother everyone by working in charities, and other worthy causes. And within that fabric of the mother there are subsets, what is the daughter concept that created this type of mother. Each woman carries part of her mother with her as part of a personal quest for self.
So in 2010 each of us will be face an in depth review our personal myths. How did we become the people that we are at this time and how can we make our journey to that complete self that will create the most positive karma for our soul. This is the challenge and I think that we are going to see more and more people turning to trying to define their self in a way that includes more service, more love, more reaching out to those in our communities. Secondly with the recession we are all forced to look at the amount of materialism in our lives. We will become more minimalistic. The astrology to me is clear — we are heading into a large change in the consciousness of the planet and this has to start with the individual. How can it start any other way.

For all the negative things that can be said about the recession, it has forced those of us who live in this land of plenty to start thinking about what “plenty” really means. During a recent trip to India to the the samadi place of Shirdi Sai Baba I learned alot about what it takes to make people happy and that material possessions are not as big a part of it as Americans might think. People will start thinking about that is really necessary.

On the web more and more websites are promoting not only the “green movement” that is seeking to save the earth, but site which are directed at the individual and the journey of the self. The whole phenomena of blogging for example is a great diversification how information is communicated. And more and more bloggers are asking the question: what are it important issues in self individualization. This is the issue, I think that the eclipse cycles of 2010 point to.

The astrology of the solar eclipse in January can point to a national monetary problem, but on another scale it points to a growing rethinking of the relationship of materialism to the growth of the human soul While a lot is said about the practical aspects of Capricorn. The fact is that Capricorn is the beginning of the return of the light. The ancients (and Ptolemy) looked to the astrological starting point of the solstice. To those of us in the northern hemisphere this means the end of the receding of the light of the sun and the beginning of a new cycle of growing light. It is the winter that defines us, it is the winter that tests the carrying of the fire within (the point of the start movie “The Road”) each of us. Winter in the developed countries is not as stark as it used to be. The supermarkets are full. But the depression, the struggle for meaning in the self unfold during winter. Ask any psychiatrist.

My advice: as 2010 unfolds , start a journal if you haven’t already. Start a dialogue with your inner core. Are you living the life you really want. Do you need all the possessions that you have. Are there ways to simplify your life. Are you going in the direction that you want. And for the many boomers that are in their latter mid-life there is the issue of self redefinition, for them this will be a most interesting year. With the last of the Saturn Uranus dance of the changing of foundations and inner structure there will be more and more changing in the idea of what it means to go older and the options of the older sense of self and the goal of living the good life.

Hang on — 2010 will be quite a ride.

At the end of October 09 Saturn will enter Libra. Under most normal cycles this would not be as interesting as it is this year. Why? Because this Saturn ingress into Libra immediately brings a square to Pluto. And further down the road there is be a cardinal grand cross. And all this has brought on a plethora of serious and sage predictions by astrologers. Added with the now tsunami of hype about the year 2012, one has to sit back and give this some thought.

I HAVE RECEIVED SO MANY CALLS FROM THIS WEBSITE ABOUT THE WORLD ENDING IN 2012 THAT I WANT TO SAY THAT THE WORLD WILL NOT END. WE ARE SIMPLY CHANGING CALENDARS AND HOPEFULLY CONSCIOUSNESS. AGAIN, THE WORLD WILL NOT END WITH THE DECEMBER ECLIPSE IN 2012.
Saturn entering Libra brings the planet of judgment and karma to its point of exaltation. Libra, the sign of the scales is the favorite sign of Saturn. Here with the scales it can make judgments with the acuity and intellect of an air sign combined with the force and pragmatic assuredness of an earth sign.

Last time Saturn entered into Libra was in 1980. Many of my clients were not even alive at this time. But those of us who were on the planet know that this was the beginning of the Regan years. And that transition from the Carter to the Regan administrations was certainly trying. From run away inflation to the greatest recession the USA had had since the “big on” of the thirties. And interestingly enough that great recession hit in 1982 when Saturn was in CONJUNCTION with Pluto in Libra. This was in November in 1982.

So there are a lot of economic factors to consider here, but to my mind, the conjunction was power house enough to consider for a moment. The fact of the matter is that the recession of the Regan years was worse than what we have gone through so far with Obama. And there have been two different ways of looking at the economic crisis of the time - Regan had the percolate down economic outlook and Obama has the stimulus package approach. How this will play out is still coming down the pike. However to my mind Obama and his health care battle makes his vision for the US so completely antithetical to that of Regan. My hopes are that some health care can be passed.

HOWEVER WHAT DOES THIS INGRESS MEAN TO THE AVERAGE PERSON?

First, if you know enough about your chart to know which signs your planets are, then look for planets that make aspects with early cardinal signs. Saturn squares or conjunctions bring an energy of analysis and in some cases crisis. Something must be decided and something must be done. When one ads to this the placement of Pluto in the mix, those of us who have early cardinal aspects must deal not only with judgments and must be made and acted upon, but transformational energies that may be particularly challenging. Here we find situations which can no longer be swept under the rug, or kept under the rug. There is the feeling of death and rejuvenation to this time. Old modes of thought and action must be shed so that growth can take place. And shedding old forms of thought and action cannot be the easiest thing to do. It should easy enough to tell a client, “Well there are some significant transformational energies coming your way, look for change, whether you want it or not. And it will come whether you resist it or not.”

The fact is that often change does not come in pretty packages, and not as simple as the pages in a psychology book. There is pain. And, for me at least, pain is never easy. Yet what one can learn is that pain can be dealt with by conscious discipline. Learning to identify the pain, where it is, how it feels, the shape and location. Pain has a rhythm to it, and when looked at and dealt with, pain can become a part of a time of transition that is like childbirth. The pain is there, but it will bring a new life. The pain will go away. And the best approach is to learn to surrender to the pain and by that act get a grip. It is when we think that we are in control and pain can get worse. Putting pressure of control on pain only brings more intensity.

Okay, so there may be pain. What else can we expect? Real growth. Not pie in the sky growth, but measurable growth. A project, a new way of really acting and being, a different way of relating. Judgment and decision will make one chose one path over another so that there will be a sense of new direction or renewed confidence in the direction one had chosen earlier.

For some of us, the early 1980s were fantastic. New growth, new directions were possible in so many ways. The 1970s were winding down and the consciousness was towards a commitment to a direction that was more settled in. Watergate, the War, Nixon were all behind us. There was a sense of direction in the flow of the innerself. So many of my clients at that time we finding exciting paths on their journey in this life. For those of us in California in particular, I think the 80s were very special. It was not until the later 80s with the worry about aids (Pluto in Scorpio) that the decade became one of health crisis.

Let us surrender to this Saturn/Pluto square from Libra to Capricorn. Open our hearts to the true decisions that we have to make to correct our darhma and keep our karma moving towards mukshaw. There will be the descent into the world of the shadow and yet the resurrection in the light. These are truly the very best and worst of times. Never before has the planets had so many resources to do things right or to do them wrong.

Never before has the individual been blessed with the best of technology. Never before have we been cursed by the best of technology. There is a core within our soul that can find expression through all this, which can find a way to manifest a greater growth, a great depth of self realization through these times, if only we take a moment to step back and look at our true goals of spirit as how these goals have been advanced or thrwarted by our previous decisions. We must learn to surrender to the direction of these deeper goals, to accept the pain and transcendance that can be experienced here as we stand collectively and individually on the threashold of a time never before experienced by either the personal or collective self. And, I am convinced if we all look inward with love and the dermination for spiritual growth that somehow the greater picture will take care of itself.

There is an aspect of the noetic sciences here. The collective consciousness and personal consciousness generating a great field of being for one and all. More later. Yet the end of the book, Lost Symbol, offers a beginning in understanding how this collective mind may yet heal us all.

September is truly a powerful month. In fact an argument could be made that the week of the fifteenth and the eighteenth will put more astrological energy into our lives than we have experienced for awhile, and we have had quite a bit coming our way lately.

September brings two events to light: First, on the 15th is the exact opposition of Uranus and Saturn. These two planets have been dancing in Pisces and Virgo since November 4th 2008. And the dance will go on until the last exact opposition in April 26 2010.

We need not really point out (or do we?) that the first exact opposition, occurring on Election Day 2008 gave us our first Afro-American president and the first president since Clinton who could speak in complete, cogent sentences.

When we stop and further realize that all this was happening while Jupiter was conjunct Neptune in Aquarius we should be thankful that we are spending some soul fulfilling incarnation time on this planet at the present point in history earth’s history, for things are going to get really interesting. (For some of us war babies, we checked in to catch the beginning of the atomic age.)

In this century, we are witnessing the U.S.A. try to reinvent itself. We are also experiencing the transformative process that we as a people and as individuals on both a personal and societal level are going through at this time. We are seeing the largest national debt, the biggest economical bailout, the rabid battle over health care, all while two wars are still going on, draining money and effort that could be spent elsewhere and what about the prospect of China eclipsing the US as a world power growing on the horizon. Global warming is looming more and more dangerously as an immediate threat as the planet heats up at an amazing pace. We must go green to survive!

And another chapter is going to be written with the energy released in September. Why? Because on the 18th of September we are witnessing a new moon conjunct Saturn and Mercury (retrograde). Three are personal planets (Sun Moon Mercury) that will be right on the opposition points of the big daddies of power, Uranus (ruler of Jupiter and Neptune by the way) and Saturn . And it is a new moon, I think that with just a little fudging we could almost rate this with a minor eclipse.

What omelets of energy will be dished up here! It would appear that everyone will get their own serving of this exciting astrological event. September will be a month of renewing our emotional and soulful connections in a moment in history where there will be great fireworks in government and social norms. Some even view this as a count down to the changing of the Mayan Calendar in 2012!

A lot has already been written about the electrical surge of creative power that will be unleashed, about the great changes that will have to happen for everyone. But let me add my own thoughts. The power released this September will be completely traumatized by the square of Saturn and Pluto at Halloween. There will be huge changes flowing almost continuously until 20013 when the great cardinal cross starts to abate.

So I am not predicting any real events as I am offering this metaphor taken from weather forecasting. There is a hurricane season starting this September and there are going to five or six of these cyclones passing through. What I am telling people is to be prepared just like one would for a hurricane. Hunker down. Look to the foundations of your personal beliefs and the actual material events happening in your life.

All that us have will be tested. Changes will come and those who have built their house on a firm setting above the water line will do well. For the rest of us who have overextended ourselves in some way, this will be a time of adjustment. The roof of our personality may be blown off. The windows of perception may well be shattered. Possessions and money may be just whisked off into the air. We will have to hold on and repair after each storm, building stronger and better. It is going to be a challenge, it is going to be exciting, and it is bringing change. Soul growth is the greater goal here.

To change metaphors: buckle up, the ride is going get really bumpy. We’ll all get air sick, but after awhile we will adjust to the conditions and even the lightening bolts will be seen as exciting, even though threatening. It will bring thrills, chills and spills.

More with later astrological weather reports! And as you can see by the way I put myself out there, I am not your normal astrologer. Perhaps because I come from a red and green planet a galaxy away
